How to Become a Reformer Pilates Instructor

The School of Reform is our in-house dynamic Reformer Pilates Qualification endorsed by Transcend. A 3 day course which will provide the learner with a thorough understanding of the principles and techniques necessary to use the Reformer effectively in a group and individual class settings. 

 

To date we have successfully qualified over 100 instructors, many of which are currently teaching in our studios, with multiple having gone on to open successful studios throughout the UK, some have even found work in studios in other parts the world. Such an exciting feeling to know that The School of Reform is providing instructors with the tools to go on and enhance lives through Reformer Pilates.

What Does the Course Include?

The School of Reform has hand-crafted its course to maximise learning whilst limiting time restaints. All of the course materials are accessible 24/7 from your home!

An immersive 3-day course, designed to give you the knowledge and confidence to teach Reformer Pilates in both group and 1:1 settings. You’ll master the Reformer, understand safe exercise progressions and regressions, and learn to design dynamic, adaptable workouts for a range of clients. By the end of the course, you should be able to plan and deliver high-quality, engaging classes, sequence exercises effectively, and use verbal, visual, and kinesthetic cues to guide your clients. Graduates are now teaching across the UK and internationally, with many going on to launch their own successful studios.

This course is designed for Pilates instructors who want to expand their skills and specialise in the Wunda Chair. You’ll explore safe and effective techniques, learn how to progress and modify exercises, and discover how to create fun, dynamic, adaptable classes for a variety of clients. By the end of the course, you should feel confident delivering engaging, well-structured classes that challenge and inspire your clients.

Anatomy Workshop

Perfect for those new to working with the body or looking to deepen their knowledge, this entry-level workshop covers key movement patterns, joint function, and ideal ranges of motion. Through a mix of theory and practical exercises, you’ll learn to recognise compensations and build a clear understanding for quality movement. The recommended starting point for anyone looking to join our Reformer Instructor Training Course without a prior qualification in a related field such as PT, physiotherapy, sports therapy, dance etc.

This is for qualified Reformer Pilates instructors who want to confidently and safely work with pre- and postnatal clients. You’ll learn about the physiological changes of pregnancy, safe exercise modifications, common discomforts, and postpartum recovery, including diastasis recti and pelvic floor health. By the end of the course, you should feel confident planning and delivering empowering, effective classes that support clients at every stage of their pregnancy journey and beyond.

Holly is the Executive Director for The Reformer Studio, qualified in L3 & L4 mat pilates & biomechanics, Pre & Postnatal, yoga instructor trained in Vinyasa & Ashtanga and a sound practitioner through Sound Baths. Throughout lockdown Holly used her time to write ‘The School of Reform’ teacher training manual which has since been endorsed by Active IQ. Holly has recently reduced her teaching hours to focus on business development and growth into the franchise market. You will still find her buzzing around behind the scenes and looking after her longstanding private clients and athletes.

Starting off as a member of the Reformer Studio, Faye was instantly drawn to the practice for its focus and meditative qualities. Now a qualified instructor through the School of Reform, her passion is fuelled by witnessing members flourish. Faye is evolving her knowledge of anatomy through Osteopathic studies at University, which allows her to tailor exercises for individual needs – a technique she’s eager to share with the School of Reform.

SCOTT

Scott is the director of Excel Therapy, a company that delivers an up-to-date, forward-thinking approach to restore people back to full activity after pain or injury. He has 20 years' experience in treating and rehabilitating pain and injury. Scott has delivered his services to professional and international athletes involved in sports such as athletics, football, boxing and ice hockey to name a few. He also lectures at university level and has mentored many other therapists to help upskill them and guide their careers.

Ana, Manchester Manager at Reformer Studio

With an extensive background in dancing, Ana loves teaching movement and helping clients to meet their fitness and rehabilitation goals. Since moving to the UK 12 years ago she's been teaching dance fitness & barre before finding Pilates 4 years ago. Ana found her of Pilates while undergoing rehab following a dance related back injury so is now now a huge advocate for the transformative benefits it brings to people. Qualified in Mat Pilates L3, Reformer Pilates, ETM level 2 & Barre, Pre & Post natal Level 3, and Tower CPD with Michael King. You can expect Ana's sessions to contain a mix of all her skills and disciplines; creating fun, spicy & challenging classes available for EVERY BODY. As a mother of two she understands how important finding time for recovery and movement is for the mind and body. She is passionate about providing a nurturing environment and an appropriate challenge for all members in the room. Ana strongly believes health is a journey of everlasting education and her classes are more than just a workout. They are a purposeful journey of strong technique, meaningful guidance and a touch of mild torture, essential for a satisfying Pilates experience! IRINI

Irini has been a member of The Reformer Studio team since January 2023, and involved with the School of Reform since January 2024. Irini has more than 7 years of teaching experience in Belgium and the UK, delivering safe but progressively challenging classes designed to take your strength, balance and stability to the next level. She holds a Balanced Body® Comprehensive Pilates Instructor certification, which includes mat, Reformer, Trapeze Table, Chair and Barrels, and is a qualified Pre and Postnatal Pilates instructor.

Shaunagh's background as a professional dancer, ballet teacher, and sports massage therapist brings a wealth of knowledge to her Reformer Pilates classes. She’s passionate about helping clients move better, feel stronger, and prevent injury by combining her understanding of body mechanics and muscle recovery with the principles of Pilates. She creates a welcoming, supportive environment where you can work on improving flexibility, strength, and posture — all while having fun and feeling your best.

Ben, School of Reform

BEN

Ben is a Mat and Reformer Pilates instructor based in London. Having trained with Frame Academy/Active IQ he went on to work for Frame for 5 years. In 2021 Ben completed his Active IQ Level 3 in Education and Training. He has launched Mat classes for corporations such as Google and Reformer classes for private members' clubs including Mortimer House. He currently is a founding Instructor of Reformer at Psycle and has taught at Power Pilates UK under Korin Nolan since 2020. Online his classes are available via Dynamic Pilates TV which he continues to contribute to.

Course Costs

The School of Reform costs £1,750 to access the course and covers the cost of your practical, training and assessment days, plus 20 Reformer Credits on your Reformer Studio account.

 

In addition to this, you will be required to purchase “The Pocket Atlas of the Moving Body” by Mel Cash (available on Amazon.co.uk for £12.99).

 

Please note that by completing the School of Reform this does not necessarily guarantee you a job at our studios. However, you will be a certified Reformer Pilates Instructor, so whether you want to apply with us, someone else, or start your own practice, this course is perfect for you.

Learning Objectives

During this course and upon completion, you will acquire the following competencies.

 

  • Learn how to maximise the potential of the Reformer Pilates machine to provide clients with high-quality movement experiences in both classes and 1:1 settings.

  • Learn how to use the Reformer safely and demonstrate the benefits of accompanying small equipment.

  • Learn how to teach an extensive range of Dynamic Reformer Pilates exercises to continually challenge and progress clients, including mobility, core/abdominal, lower and upper body movements.

  • Understand the 'layering' of exercises and how to deliver exercise progressions and regressions.

  • Understand and apply modified exercises based upon basic pathologies, including pre and postnatal conditions.

  • Learn how to sequence exercises into a dynamic flow.

  • Creating a workout suitable for either the beginner or intermediate client.

  • Construct evolving class plans involving key elements designed to develop your clients.

  • Learn the use of verbal, visual, and kinesthetic cues and how to use them while teaching your class.

Student Scholarship to the School of Reform

Student scholarships are available to a limited number of students per school year.

 

What you need to know about our Scholarship Programme

 

90% of the course is funded by The Reformer Studio. We want to invest in the future team for The Reformer Studio so we subsidise the cost of the course for the right applicants.

 

You have to be an active member of the studio to apply.

 

Complete a minimum of 50 sessions at The Reformer Studio (any location) in order to qualify to apply.

 

The scholarship programme is only available to people who intend to go on to become an instructor at The Reformer Studio.

 

You have to be studying a relevant course e.g. Sports, athletes scholarship, or a medical/anatomy based degree.
