True strength isn’t just about how much you can lift or how hard you train, it’s about balance, control, and focus. At the Reformer Studio, we see every day how Reformer Pilates helps improve not only physical performance but also mental wellbeing and overall sense of connection. As part of International Mens Day we turn our focus to how Men can benefit from Pilates physically, mentally and socially.

Focus

Reformer Pilates is a mindful practice focusing on breath and control. Each movement demands concentration and awareness, helping you slow down, tune in, and switch off from life’s constant noise. That mental reset activates the parasympathetic nervous system, easing stress and anxiety, leaving you calmer, clearer, and more present, both inside and outside the studio.

Strength

The Reformer builds deep core strength, stability, and mobility, the foundations of powerful movement. For men who train in the gym or play sports like canoe, cricket, or boxing, Pilates can make a huge difference:

  • Improved core control enhances balance, speed, and coordination.

  • Increased flexibility and mobility helps prevent injuries and aid recovery.

  • Better posture and alignment mean more efficient movement and reduced strain during lifts, runs, and strikes.

Pilates was created to build both physical strength and mental resilience. During WW1 Joseph Pilates refined his method through working with injured soldiers, fun fact, the initial idea of the Reformer was created during this time to rehabilitate injured soldiers confided to hospital beds. The method is used from those in recovery all the way up to high level sports. Working with athletes such as Jonny Young, Olly Stone and Ekow Essuman, we first hand have observed recovery and performance excel.

It’s the kind of strength that supports wellbeing, not just appearance.

Community

Classes are welcoming and inclusive, a space to move, challenge yourself, and connect with others. There’s no competition, no judgment, just shared focus and encouragement. Many men find this environment refreshing, a chance to breathe, recharge, and build strength in a new way.

Pilates reminds us that self-care and mental health are part of being strong. It’s about balance, not burnout, and learning to listen to your body, rather than push past it. The result? A stronger, calmer, and more resilient version of yourself, both in training and in everyday life.
